Pandit Ajoy Pohankar starts this recital with the tradition thumri "Ae muhabbat tere anjaam pe rona aya" (awaaz mein bardi mithhaas hai). Instantly reminds me of Begum Akhtar.
ThenRoop Kumar Rathod continues with "Maula mere maula mere ..aankhein teri, kitni haseen". The Urdu poetry obviously appeals to both the singers from Madhya Pradesh and the listeners. At times the simplest of Urdu can be ever so beautiful, especially when it combined with a semi-classical style of music. Saadi zaban mein kitni kashish hai.
This fusion seems to work for me even though I think that they did not need the complexity of so many instruments to make the final sound.
