Ba har soo jalwa e dil daar deedam
Ba har cheez e jamal e yaar deedam

Na deedam haich shay ra khali az wai'
pur az wai' koocha o bazaar deedam

Choo khudra bin garam deedam hamoon ast
Jamal-e-khud jamal-e-yaar deedam

Namaz e zahidaan mehrab o minbar
Namaz e aashqaan bar daar deedam

Jo yak jurra raseed az ghaib a Hafiz
Hama aqal o khird bekaar deedam

Raag Gawati by Sharafat Ali Khan

Ustad Sharafat Ali Khan (1955 - 2009) belonged to the Sham Churasi Gharana and won several prestigious awards.

He was the eldest son of famous classical singer Ustad Salamat Ali Khan. Born in Multan, Sharafat began his musical career in his childhood and graduated from the prestigious Government College in Lahore.

Khan inherited his father’s singing qualities and had enormous grip over thumri, kafi, khayal and ghazal. He got his first award – Tamgha-e-Hunar - from Afghanistan. Subsequently Khan was honoured with the Saraswati and other awards for his exceptional performances.

For those from Montreal who know Ustad Shafqat Ali Khan, Sharafat was his elder brother.
