Kabhi Aye Haqeeqat-e-Muntazar

Kabhi Aye Haqeeqat-e-Muntazar by Rahat Fateh Ali Khan from Tasawwuf

Kabhi aye Haqeeqat-e-muntazar, nazar aa libas-e-majaz mein
ke hazar sajde tarap rahe hain meri jabeen-e-niaz mein

For once, O awaited Reality, reveal Yourself in a form material,
For a thousand prostrations are quivering eagerly in my submissive brow

Tu bacha bacha ke na rakh Issey, tera aaeena hai voh aaeena
ke shikast ho to aziz tar hai nigah-e-aaeena saaz mein

Do not try to protect them, your mirror is the mirror
Which would be dearer in the Maker's eye if they broken are

Na kaheen jahan mein amaan milli, jo amaan milli to kahan milli
mere jurm-e-khana kharab ko, tere afw-e-banda nawaz mein

My dark misdeeds found no refuge in the wide world—
The only refuge they found was in Your Gracious Forgiveness

Na voh ishq mein raheen garmiyaan, na voh husn mein raheen shaukiyan
na voh ghaznavi mein tarrap rahi, na kham hai zulf-e-zyaz mein

Neither love has that warmth, nor beauty has that humour
Neither that restlessness in Ghaznavi nor those curls in the hair locks of Ayaz are,

Jo mein sar basajda huwa kabhi, to zameen se aane lagi sada
tera dil to hai sanam aashna, tujhe kya miley ga namaz mein

Even as I laid down my head in prostration a cry arose from the ground:
Your heart is in materialism, no rewards for your prayers are.

Koi Umeed Bar Nahi Ati - Mirza Ghalib -

Koi Umeed Bar Nahi Aati
Koi Soorat Nazar Nahi Aati

There is no hope to be found
There is no resolution to be sought

Moat Ka Aik Din Mo-ayeeyan Hai
Neend Kyun Raat Bar Nahi Ati

Death is destined to arrive one day
But why does sleep fail to come all night

Agay Ati Thi Hal-e-Dil Pe Hansee
Ab Kisi Baat Per Nahi Ati

Once I was able to laugh at the predicament of my heart
Now I am unable to laugh at anything

Jaanta Hoon Savaab-e-Taa'at-o-Zohad
Per Tabiyaat Udher Nahi Ati

Though I am aware of the rewards of prayer and virtue
But I am prohibited by my disposition

Hai Kuch Aisee Hai Baat Jo Chup Hoon
Warna Kiya Baat Ker Nahi Ati

This matter is such that I am prevented from speaking of it
Otherwise what is there that I cannot speak of

Kiyon Na Cheekhon ke Yaad Kartay Hein
Meri Aavaaz gar Nahin Aati

Why shouldn’t I shout for I reminisce
Yet my voice fails to produce any sound

Daag-e-dil gar Nazar Nahin Aata
Boo bhi ae Chaaraa-gar Nahin Aati

Though the wound of my heart cannot be seen
but my healer, even a trace of its smoldering is missing

Hum Wahan Hain Jahan say Hum Ko Bhi
Kuch Hamari Khabar Nahi Ati

I am in such a state, from where even I am
Unable to get any news of myself

Martay Hein Arzoo Mein Marnay Ki
Moat Ati Hai Per Nahi Ati

I am dying of impatience in hope of death
Death appears,yet fails to arrive

Kaba Kis Moun say Jao Gay Ghalib
Sharam Tum Ko Magar Nahi Ati

How will you go to Kaaba, O Ghalib!
You do not bear any shame!

Sitaron se Aage Jehan aur bhi Hein

Sitaron se aage jehan aur bhi hein

Abhi ishq ke imtehaan aur bhi hein
Tahi zindagi se nahin ye fizayen
Yahan saikadon karwaan aur bhi hein
Khana’at na kar aalam-e-rang-o-bu par
Chaman aur bhi, aashiyaan aur bhi hein
Agar kho gaya ek nasheman to kya ghum
Maqmat-e-aah-o-fughaan aur bhi hein
Tu shaheen hai parvwaaz hai kaam tera
Tere saamne aasmaan aur bhi hein
Isi roz-o-shab main ulajh kar na rah ja
Ke tere zameen par makaan aur bhi hein
Gaye din ke tanha tha main anjuman mein
Yahaan ab mere raazdaan aur bhi hein

Translation:

Beyond the stars there are worlds more
Our quest yet has more tests to pass
This existence alone does not matter
There are boundless journeys more
Do not rest on what you have
There are paradises more to explore
Why worry if you have lost one abode
There are a million addresses to claim
You are the falcon, your passion is flight
And you have skies more to transcend
Lose not yourself in the cycle of days and nights
Within your reach are feats even more
Gone is the day when I was lonesome in the crowd
Today those who resonate my thoughts are more

Recital: Rahat Fateh Ali Khan

Dost Gham Khari Mein Meri - Mirza Ghalib -

With Asadullah Khan on my mind. This particular kalam, which is quite unusual for the qawwali genre, seems so suited for it with Rahats particular andaaz. The manner is which he has stressed on the words and phrases that are important to bring out the essence of the poetry is noteworthy. Especially as the repetition of parts of verses is so natural to qawwali. He repeats "Zakhm ke bhane talak" and then "had se, had se guzri" as does the chorus that follows through beautifully. Then towards the end after the reciting Ghalib's maqta once he moves onto Mirs following relevant verses:

Kya bud-o-baash poochho ho, purab ke sakino'n
Hum ko gharib jaan ke, hans hans pukaar ke
Dilli jo ek shahar thaa aalam-e-intekHaab mein
Rahte thay mutakHib hi jahaan rozgaar ke
Usko falak nay looT ke bar-baar kar diya
Hum rahne waale hain usii ujDHay dayaar ke

and then back again to the maqta

Hai ab is Maa'more Mein Qaht-e-Gham-e-Ulfat Asad
Ham ne yeh Mana ke Dilli Mein Rehen, Khaawen ge Kya

Wah wah Rahat what a wonderful gem!
from Tasawwuf
Recital: Rahat Fateh Ali Khan

Dost Gham khari Mein Meri, Saa'i Farmayen ge Kya
Zakhm ke bharne Talak, Nakhun na Bhar awyen ge kya

Beniazi had se guzri, banda parvar kab talak
Hum Kahain Haal-e-Dil, aur Aap Farmayen ge kya

Hazrat-e-Nasih Gar Aawyen Deeda-o-Dil Farsh-e-RAH
Koi Yeh to Samjha do, Akhir Samjhawen ge kya?

Aaj Vaan TeG-o-Kafan BaNdhe hue Jaata Hun Main
Uzr Mere Qatl Karne Mein vo ab Layenge Kya

Gar Kiya Naaseh ne Ham ko Qaid achha yunn Sahii
Ye Junun-e-Ishq ke Andaaz Chhut Jaayen ge Kyaa

Khana Zaad-e-Zulf Hain, Zanjir se Bhaagen ge kyon
Hain Giraftaar-e-Vafaa, ZindaaN se Ghabarawen ge kyaa

Hai ab is Maa'more Mein Qaht-e-Gham-e-Ulfat Asad

Dyar-e-Ishq Mein Apna Maqaam Paida Ker -

What a historic and beautiful presentation of Iqbal's poetry this was.
It gives me such pleasure to see this out-door recital of Apna Maqaam
Paida kar. The rich Islamic architecture as the backdrop, the tasteful
lighting, the professional photography and the relative simplicity of
attire of the qawwals. The unhurried andaaz is so uplifting and Iqbal's
words of course so well chosen, inspiring and motivating.

Hats off to the organizers, as well as to Musharraf, who encouraged the
arts during this period. He made several serious mistakes, but
this was certainly an aspect for which we owe him a debt to gratitude.
The Zia period by comparison almost killed and buried the performing
arts in Pakistan in its own version of religious zeal. I'd like
to quote a verse:

Galla To Ghoant Dia Ahl-e-Madrassa Ne Tera
Kahan Se Ayae Sadda La Ilah Ill Lallah - M. Iqbal

The inhabitants of madrassah have choked your throat
Now from where will come the voice of La Ilah Ill Lallah

Tera Johar He Noori, Paak He Tu
Farogh-e-Deeda-e-Aflaak He Tu
Tere Saidhe Zaboo Aa-Farishta-o-hoor
Kay Shaheen-e-Shahe Lo-Laak He Tu

The crux of your creation is Noor (light), You are pure
Heavenly eyes want to see your progress
Angels and Beautiful Maidens are for you
You are an Eagle of Allah (Shah) the owner of lo-laak (realm where no one can go)
---
Hakimi Nay Musalmani Khudi Ki
Kalimi Ramz-e-Pinhani Khudi Ki
Tujhe Gur Fakr-o-Shahi Ka Bata Doon
Ghareebi Mein Nigehbani Khudhi Ki

Wisdom is when Khudi reaches climax and becomes Muslim
Hidden secret to Khudi is when one can start talking with God
Let me tell you the secret of poverty and richness
In poverty you be guardian of Khudi

Life is like an Oyster Seashell, Khudi is a droplet of irritant
What's the worth of an Oyster Seashell? If it cant create a Pearl from an irritant
(Foreign irritants stimulates nacre production within Oyster Seashell to create a Pearl)
---
Ho Agar Khudnegaro, Khudgaro, Khudgeer Khudi
Yeh Bhi Mumkin Hai Ke Tu Mout Se Bhi Mar Na Sakay

If Khudi is under these qualities "Self vigilance", "Self molding", "Self Critical"
Then Its possible that even death cant kill you

When Khudi is hidden then its Divine

Way to God is in the grip of Khudi

In your chest is heartbeat, but no passion no emotions
Your heartbeat is not capable to stir up or warm-up the congregation
Go beyond the realm of logic, that this light (Noor)

Tu Agar Mera Nahi Banta Na Bun... Apna To Bun

Then, Tulips Blossoming have brought life to Mountains and Valleys
Seeing this scenery and Birds singing; its tempting me to sing as well
Dive within yourself and find the secret of life
If you dislike following me, then don't! but at least listen to your own self

Inward world is feelings-emotions, and passion-interests
Outward world is bargain-dealings, and deception-art
When one attains inward wealth then one never looses it
Outward wealth is like a shadow, Money comes and goes
---

Mun Ki Dunya Mein Na Paya Mein Ne Afrangi Ka Raaj
Mun Ki Dunya Mein Na Dekhe Mein Ne Shaikh-o-Brahman
Paani Paani Ker Gayi Mujh Ko Qalandar Ki Yeh Baat
Tu Jhuka Jab Ghair Ke Agay Na Mun Tera Na Tan

In inward world I dint find the throne of Britishers
In inward world I didn't find Sheikhs nor Brahmins
This message of saint made me humble and brought humility
When you prostate in front of others you loose both inner and outer world

This is now the way of your salvation and reawakening
Ask the one who has achieved contentment about situation of his heart
I pray that Allah makes you aware of your true status

(This is referring to time of early Muslim generation where, early Muslims companions of Prophet Muhammad Pbuh claimed that if disbelievers only but knew of the contentment in our hearts that they will fight us for it. Iqbal is saying ask such persons for the condition (hadith) of their heart, how I wish that you were aware of your true status)

Na Momin He Na Momin Ki Ameeri
Raha Sufi Gayee Roshan Zameeri
Khuda Se Phir Wohi Qalb-o-Nazar Maang
Nahin Mumkin Ameeri Be Faqeeri

Neither there is a Muslim (Believer) nor his power/wealth remains;
The Sufi has outlived his radiant soul;
Ask God for the heart and soul of men of the past (righteous generations),
Become a fakir (contentment), first! to regain your lost power/wealth.

Mera Tareek Ameeri Nahi Faqeeri Hai
Khudi Na Baich Ghareebi Mein Naam Paida Kar

My ways are not wealth but poverty (contentment),
Do not sell selfhood, create honor in poverty.

(My way of life is poverty (contentment), not the pursuit of wealth)
(Barter not thy Selfhood; win a name in adversity)

Dyar-e-Ishq Mein Apna Maqaam Paida Ker
Naya Zamana Nayae Subho Shaam paida ker

Create a place for thyself in the realm of love;
Create a new age, new days and nights.
