Allah Hu by Moin Niazi Qawwal (Tamgha-e-Imtiaz)

Once again today I am drawn to the special softness to this old renditions
of "Allah Hu". The pure humility, the beseeching to be heard, and the surrender.
With the use of phrases such as "Khalik-e-kul hai Tu" & "Saarey aalam
ko hai teri hi justuju" coupled with the gentle, warm and affectionate
style makes this one of my favs. Andaaz purana, narm aur khoobsoorat.

The young man with the melodious voice (to the right) is by now
middle aged. Better known as
Ghous Muhammad Nasir Niazi Qawwal,
he is the son of the late Ustad Moin Niazi (Tamgha-e-Imtiaz) who is in
the lead here.

Iltija meri ae Khuda, sun ley
Apni rehmat ka wasta, sun ley

Kon hai mera ab siva tere
Sun Muhammad ka vasta, sun ley

Maalik ul mulk, La shareeka la hu
Wahdahu, la ilaha ila hu

Kaliq-e-kul hai tu, iss mein kya guftugu
Saarey aalam ko hai, teri hi justuju

Teri jalwagari hai, ayan char su
La shareeka la hu, Maalik ul mulk tu

Allah hu Allah hu, Allah hu Allah hu.....

Baro Ghi Ke Diye - In Celebration of the Birth of the Prophet PBUH

For Urdu lovers and especially those exposed to some Purbi the recital of the badhawa "Baro Ghi Ke Diye" is filled with a such sweet mithhaas. It is of not just the quaint vocabulary here but also the motherly love and pride conveyed in them. The rendition below by the late Qawwal Bahauddin Khansaheb of Karachi is so beautifully packed with passion and jazba. Enjoy the mehfil-e-sama.

Tu Mane ya na Mane Dildara, Assan te Tainu Rab Manneya

Wadali Brothers

Tu mane ya na mane dildara
 Assan te tainu Rab manneya

Das hor keda rab da dwara
Assan te tainu Rab manaya

 Apne tan ki khaak urdai
Tab ye ishq ki manzil paayi

Meri saanson ka bolae ik tara
Assan te tainu Rab manaya

Koi kashi koi Makke janda
Koi kumbh vich ja dhakke khanda

Mere Allah, Tujh bin jeena, bhi kya jeena,
Teri chokhat mera Madina
Kaheen aur na sajda gavara,
Assan te tainu Rab manaya

Yaad Ne Teri Kiya Khud Se Faramosh Mujhe - Bedam Shah Warsi RA

Surely this has got to be one of the all time best qawwal parties. I wish they had a larger audience of listeners who would encourage them and appreciate their classical style of recital.
Nonetheless they will certainly go down in history as amongst the greats. Around the 12:30
mark the gayeki becomes sublime. Please do not miss the use of the sarangi on the extreme right.

Kalam: Hazrat Bedam Shah Warsi

Preamble: Daikha jo Dar-e-Yaar pe, Hangama Barpa
Jan-bazon ka jhamghat tha, dil-walon ka mela
Bedam koi, bedil koi, koi tha sissakta
Koi jigar tham ke, yun karta tha naala
--
Yaad ne teri kiya khud se faramosh mujhe
Ab to dhunde se bhi paye na mere hosh mujhe

Ab to rusvaye zamana hun, khuda khair karein
Koi aashiq mujhey kehta, koi sodayi hai

takrar: Ab to dhunde se bhi paye na mere hosh mujhe

Nigah se hi mujhe kuchh pila ke chord diya
Khudi ke hi but ne to bekhud bana ke chord diya

takrar: Ab to dhunde se bhi paye na mere hosh mujhe

Yun bulate hein mujhey koocha-e-jana wale
Abay O idhar aa, chaak gire-baan wale

takrar: Ab to dhunde se bhi paye na mere hosh mujhe

Har lab-e-zakhm se deta hun duaen un ko
Phir bhi kehte hein wo ehsan-faramosh mujhe

takrar: Phir bhi kehte hein wo ehsan-faramosh mujhe

Aye husn-e-yaar tujh ko na ruswa karein ge ham
Mar jayen ge, na Yaar ka shikwa karein ge ham

takrar: Phir bhi kehte hein wo ehsan-faramosh mujhe

Nibha ke waqt jo tardpa to sanam rooth gaya
Khoon behta hi gaya log mananey ke liye daikho

takrar: Phir bhi kehte hein wo ehsan-faramosh mujhe

Chashm e pur aab hai, dil sham e sifat jalta hai
kya qayamat hai ke barsaat mein ghar jalta hai

takrar: Phir bhi kehte hein wo ehsan-faramosh mujhe

Dil ke jalte huwe daaghon se jala ker seena
Ham ghareebon ne adaras mein charaghan ki hai

takrar: Phir bhi kehte hein wo ehsan-faramosh mujhe

Marne ke baad mera janaza na pardhana
Mehboob ke dar se meri mayyat na uthana

takrar: Phir bhi kehte hein wo ehsan-faramosh mujhe

Jin ki rahon mein kabhi mein ne bichhaya tha lahu
Woh ye kehte hein hamein lafz e wafa yaad nahin

takrar: Phir bhi kehte hein wo ehsan-faramosh mujhe

Os tarah tera naqab be rukh e roshan phoonka
Jis taraf jalwe tere ker gaye be-hosh mujhe

Chashm-e-Maste Ajabe - Hazrat Amir Khusrau

 Recital: Ateeq Hussain Bandanawazi Qawwal

Chashm-e-Maste `ajabe, zulf daraze `ajabe
O wondrous ecstatic eyes, O wondrous long locks
Mai-paraste `ajabe, fitna taraze `ajabe
O wondrous wine worshipper, O wondrous mischievous sweetheart,
Bahr-e-qatlam chu kashad tegh neham sar basujud
As he draws the sword, I bow my head in prostration so as to be killed
Ou banaze `ajabe man banyaze `ajabe
O wondrous is his beneficence, O wondrous my submission
Waqt-e-bismil shud anam chashm baryush baz ast
In the spasm of being killed my eyes beheld your face;
Mehrbane `ajabe bandanawaze `ajabe
O wondrous benevolence, O wondrous guidance and protection
Turk taze `ajabe shoba babaze `ajabe
O wondrous amorous teasing, O wondrous beguiling
Kajkulahe `ajabe `arba da saze `ajabe
O wondrous tilted cap, O wondrous tormentor
Haq mago kalma-e-kufr ast dar iin ja Khusrau
Do not reveal the Truth; in this world blasphemy prevails Khusrau
Razdane `ajabe sahib-e-raz-e-`ajabe
O wondrous source of mystery, O wondrous knower of secrets.
~ Amir Khusrau
