Chaap Tilak Sab Chheeni - Hz. Amir Khusrau

08 Chaap Tilak Sab Chheeni from Tasawwuf on Vimeo.

We were truly fortunate to have Fareed Ayaz and Abu Muhammad with Ali Akbar Razi Ghayoor Moiz Mustafa QawwalHamza Akram QawwalQawwal Tehseen Farid at our home recently in a small and intimate gathering.

The evening will forever remain in my memory for its soft style of singing. This 47 min Chaap Tilak contains many special moments with lots of girahbandi which one would expect from such a long rendition. I'd like to thank both the singers and the listeners for helping create such a beautiful atmosphere. Most of all to Pasha Mohamad Khan and McGill for being instrumental in bringing them to Canada and showcasing Pakistani singers at the University and Amir Ali Alibhai for the events at the Aga Khan Museum in Toronto.

Others who deserve a special thanks are the generous friends Arshad Saeed, Javed Somra and Mustafa Hamid from Ottawa.

Aaja Moray Nainan Mein Saajna - Hamza Akram

Aaja Moray Nainan Mein Saajna

A Star is born! Upcoming young Pakistani singer Hamza Akram sings this traditional qawwali kalam with modern instruments. The tarz is beautiful as is the style of his singing. The sound of the bansuri and tabla add a lovely element of softness that is at times absent from qawwali. Hamza is the descendant of several generations of singer and hails from the Dehli Gharana. His father is Ghulam Akram Qawwal who is a senior member of the Farid Ayaz Qawwal party, where Hamza has also started to perform lately in the front row.

Hamza's ustaad is the famous classical singer Naseeruddin Saami, therefore the obviously well trained voice and wonderful control. I am sure he is going places....

Aaja Sajan in Nainan Mein, So palak dhaanp tohay loon
Na mein daikhoon aur ko, Na tohay daikhan doon

Aaja Moray Nainan Mein Saajna
Mein to tan man daarun gi vaar

Roong roong mein bas gayo, tum pretam pyarey
saans saans mori har ghardi, tora naam pukarey
Mein to ho chali bawariya
Aaja Moray Nainan Mein Saajna

Saanjh raat tori raah takun, kahin chain na aaye
Tum jo morey paas nahin, mohey kachh nahin bhaaye
Mein to bhul gayi haar singhaar re
Aaja Moray Nainan Mein Saajna
