Abida Parveen sings Bedam Shah Warsi's 'Kaaba-e-Dil Qibla-e-Jaan'

Kaaba-e-Dil Qibla-e-Jaan Taaq-e-Abroo-e-Ali

(Kalam credit: azkalam)

Ghālib nadīm-e-dost se ātī hai bū-e dost
Mashġhūl-e ḥaq hū bandagī-e-bū-turāb me

Ghalib, the breeze coming from the Friend smells of the Friend
I’m busy with the Truth in the servitude of ‘Bu Turab [Ali ibn Abi Talib]

Ismail Azad Qawwal - Haider Ki Talwar

Source: http://www.youtube.com/user/MuhammadSamie

'Ismail Azad Qawwal, a very celebrated qawwal of the era 1940-50s, was from India and sung many renowned qawwaliz a huge proportion of which were the masterpieces written by Anwar Masroor. He was famous for singing qawwaliz with lyrics having sheer meanings and lessons in them. His qawwaliz were copied in India as well as in Pakistan subsequently. Many qawwals seemed to have inspired by his beguiling compositions and the way he delivered the verses.

'The dominant feature of his masterpieces was the simplicity and the meaningfulness of the kalam and the catchy compositions that magnetized the attention of the listeners and generated a considerable Ismaili fanclub. Unlike a traditional qawwal, he never focused on the 'raag' yet he possessed a melodious, sharp and easily distinguishable voice. Since he made his mark far before the 3 gigantic legends namely Aziz Mian, Sabri Borthers and Nusrat, they viewed him as one of the trendsetters in the qawwali world. Naat, Manqabat and Shan-e-Auliya (Grandeur of Saints) were the major topics of his qawwaliz though he sung for the films as well including numbers like "Hamain To Loot Liya", etc. His famous numbers were "Paaray Paaray Pe Likha Hai Kamli Walay Ka Naam", "Mere Peer Hain Jilani", "Takhti", "Haider Ki Talwar", "Bade Peer Benazir", "Hamain To Loot Liya" and many more.'

Ustad Bahauddin Khan Qawal - Kalam Hazrat Bou Ali Qalandar -

Haider-e-um Qalandaram Mastam
Banda-e-Murtaza Ali Hastam

Peshwa-e-Tamaan Rindanam
Ke Saga-e-Koh-e-Sher-e-Yazdanam

Man Baghair az Ali Na Dansitam
Ho Wal Aala Ho Wal Ali Guftam

Ghair e Haider Agar Hamee Danees
Kafiri o Yahood o Nasranees

Qaul - Mun Kunto Moala

Qaul - Mun Kunto Moala from Tasawwuf on Vimeo.

Another beautiful rendition of "Mun Kunto Moala", (Manqabat) in praise of Hazrat Ali (R).

The word "moala" means leader in this context. I have been asked about this on a few occasions...therefore the explanation.

At an evening of qawwali organized by Canada Pakistan Association

The above is in a higher resolution than youtube allows, therefore better quality of viewing and sound (though unfortunately the sound is not from the mixer but the video microphone)....

Wiladat Hazrat Ali Murtaza

13th of Rajab is being remembered and celebrated as the (1347th) birthday of Hazrat Ali Murtaza -- Sahabi-e-Rasul, Imam, Khalifa-e-Rashidoon, scholar, statesman, and warrior. His numerous virtues and achievements, which need no introduction here, are beautifully captured in the following Man Kunto Maula rendition by Munshi Raziuddin, a fantastic composition which brings together Urdu and Persian couplets from various poets and saints.

Zahay izzo jalalay Bu Turabay fakhre insanay
Ali al-Murtaza mushkil kushaye shere Yazdanay

The honour and valour of Abu Turab is the pride of mankind
No doubt Ali al-Murtaza (AS), helper in the time of need, is the Lion of God.
— Hazrat Shah Niaz Ahmed Qadri Chishti
