Neeki Lagat Mohey Apne Piya Ki - Farid Ayaz Qawwal

Lost in thought, this is the pensive and wistful mood of Farid Ayaz that I love most.

Preamble: Laagi Laagi sab kahein, laagi buri bala
Laagi to tab jaaniyo, jab aar paar hoee jaae ~ Kabir

----

Poet: Turab Hyderabadi

Neeki lagat mohe apnay piya ki
(Moray piya ki) Aankh raseeli jaado bhari

Nazar nay nazar mulaqat kar li (borrowed verse)
Rahay donon khamosh aur baat kat li

Chaen parat naahi mukh daikay bina
Daikh najar bhar jaat mari ray

Kaahay Turab darre kaahu say
Preet karee, ka mein chori karee ray?!

Music produced by The Kabir Project, Bangalore during the annual Kabir Festival.
The qawwali singers, Farid Ayaz and Abu Muhammad, are from Karachi, Pakistan

Kabir in Pakistan - Sufi poetry

Shafi Mohammed Faqir from Sindh, Pakistan featured i shere in "Had Anhad"
the film produced by Shabnam Virmani of The Kabir Project.
The interesting string instrument that has a folk sound in the background is
the Bulbul Tarang seen at 5.30.

Jeet jeet ke umar guzari
Hon te haar fakira

Jeetey da mol char kordiyan
Te haray da mol heera

Nal Mahi tede Lagiyan Diliyan
Asan Ishq da kalma padh baithhey
Asan sar da soda kar baithhey

The above clip was added with permission from The Kabir Project, Bangalore.

trans:

Sacrificed my head at the feet of the beloved
How right that was!

It was nothing but a great burden, got removed
How right that was!

~ Farrokh Namazi

Here is some more enchanting World music where the Bulbul is used with Violin and other instruments:

Uth Jaag Musafir - Kabir kalam by Farid Ayaz

Recital: Farid Ayaz & Abu Muhammad

Uth Jaag Musafir Bhor Bhaee
Ab raen kahan jo sowat hai

Jo sowat hai vo khowat hai
Jo Jagat hai so pavat hai

Lardakpan khel mein khoya, jawani neend bhar soya
Budhapa daikh ke roya

Jo sowat hai vo khowat hai
Jo Jagat hai so pavat hai

~ Kabir Das

Includes a girah to a couple of wonderful Farsi verses:

Subhay dam chun rukh namoodi, shud namaz e man qazaa
Sajda kayy bashad rawa, chun aaftab ayad broo
