Alif Allah chambe di booti - Abida Parvin

Alif Allah Chambey di Booti - Hazrat Sultan Bahu from Tasawwuf on Vimeo.

Alif Allah chambe di booti, Murshid man wich laaee hoo
Nafee asbaat da pane milia, Har rage harjae hoo.
Andar booti mushk machaya, Jaan phullan te aae hoo
Jeeve Murshid Kaamil Bahu, Jain eh booti laee hoo

-

My Master Has Planted in My Heart the Jasmine of Allah’s Name.
Both My Denial That the Creation is Real and My Embracing of God, the Only Reality, Have Nourished the Seedling Down to its Core.
-When the Buds of Mystery Unfolded Into the Blossoms of Revelation, My Entire Being Was Filled with God’s Fragrance.
-May the Perfect Master Who Planted this Jasmine in My Heart Be Ever Blessed, O Bahu!

-

Allaah parhion hafiz hoion, Na giaa hijabon pardaa hoo
Parhh parhh aalim faazil hoion, Taalib hoion zar daa hoo
Lakh hazar kitabaan parhiaan, Zaalim nafs na mardaa hoo
Baajh Faqeraan kise na mareya, Eho chor andar daa hoo

-

-You Have Read the Name of God Over and Over, You Have Stored the Holy Qur’an in Your Memory, But this Has Still Not Unveiled the Hidden Mystery.
-Instead, Your Learning and Scholarship Have Sharpened Your Greed for Worldly Things,
-None of the Countless Books You’ve Read in Your Life Has Destroyed Your Brutal Ego.
-Indeed, None But the Saints Can Kill this Inner Thief, for it Ravages the Very House in Which it Lives.

-

Alif-aihad jad dittee wiskaalee, Az khud hoiaa fane hoo
Qurb, Wisaal, Maqaam na Manzil, Na uth jism na jaanee hoo
Na uth Ishq Muhabbat kaee, Na uth kaun makanee hoo
Aino-ain theeose Bahu, Sirr Wahadat Subhanee hoo

-

-When the One Lord Revealed Himself to Me, I Lost Myself in Him.
-Now There is Neither Nearness Nor Union. There is No Longer A Journey to Undertake, No Longer A Destination to Reach.
-Love Attachment, My Body and Soul and Even the Very Limits of Time and Space Have All Dropped From My Consciousness.
-My Separate Self Has Merged in the Whole: in That, O Bahu, Lies the Secret of the Unity That is God!

-

Allaah sahee keetose jis dam, Chamkiaa Ishq agohaan hoo
Raat dihaan de taa tikhere, Kare agohaan soohaan hoo
Andae bhaaheen, Andar baalan, Andar de wch dhoohaan hoo
‘Shaah Rag’ theen Raab nerhe laddhaa, Ishq keetaa jad soohaan hoo

-

-The Moment I Realized the Oneness of God, the Flame of His Love Shone Within, to Lead Me On.
-Constantly it Burns in My Heart with Intense Heat, Revealing the Mysteries Along My Path.
-This Fire of Love Burns Inside Me with No Smoke, Fuelled by My Intense Longing for the Beloved.
-Following the Royal Vein, I Found the Lord Close By. My Love Has Brought Me Face to Face with Him.

-

Alif alast suniaa dil mere, Jind balaa kookendee hoo
Hubb watan dee haalib hoee, Hik pal saun na dendee hoo
Qaihar pave is raazan duneeaa, Haq daa raah marendee hoo
Aashiq mool qabool na Bahu, Zaaro zaar ruvendee hoo

-

-When, At the Time of Creation, God Separated Me From Himself, I Heard Him Say: “am I Not Your God?” , “indeed You Are,” Cried My Soul, Reassured. Since Then Has My Heart Flowered.
-With the Inner Urge to Return Home, Giving Me Not A Moment of Calm Here on Earth.
-May Doom Strike this World! it Robs Souls on Their Way to God.
-The World Has Never Accepted His Lovers; They Are Persecuted and Left to Cry in Pain.

Jo rang rangiya, goorha rangiya - Hazrat Sultan Bahu

Singer: Abida Parvin
Poet: Sultan Bahu

Jo rang rangiya, goorha rangiya; murshad wali lali hoo yaar.
Each shade I colored, imbued intensely; the faithful redness of a murshad (teacher), O friend.
Koook dila mataan rab suney, cha dard wandaan diyan aanhi hoo;
seena ta mera dard hee bharyaaa, ander bharkan banhi hoo;
tailan baaj na balan mashalan, dardaan baaj na aanhi hoo;
atish nal yaraney laa kay, hum bhat saran kay nahi hoo.
Awkha jhera ishq-e-wala, sambhal kay per nikaleen O’ yaar.

Squeaks of heart, my Lord listens, even if they are the sighs of the bereaved;
all my chest is full of, is pain, inside, rages a fire of realization;
without oil, lamps don’t light, without pain, there are no sighs;
befriending violent fires, we ought to get burnt, don’t we?
Hard is the matter of Ishq, careful, when you spread those wings, O friend.

Main shahbaaz karan parvazaan, wich aflaak karam dey hoo;
zabaan to mere kun baraber, mowran kam kalam dey hoo;
aflatoon arastoo wargey, mein aggey kis kam dey hoo;
hatim wargey jhak karooran, dar bahoo dey mangdey hoo;
Zulf siah wich yad-e-baiza, ow chamkar dekhaween o yaar;

Falcon, I am, flight, my habit, in heavens is my destiny;
my tongue equals the one which utters ‘kun’, the works of destiny’s pen, I refute;
the likes of Socrates and Plato, have no merit in contrast to me;
millions like Hatim lay idling, begging at the door of Bahu;
In black hair, a brilliantly glowing hand (reference to Moses’s miracle), show us a miracle like that, O friend.

Allah!
Ishq muhabbat dey dariya wich, thee mardaanaa tarreeyay hoo;
Jitthe paun ghazab deeaan laiharaan, qadam uthaaeen dhareeyay hoo;
Aujharh jhang balaaeen bele, wekh wekh na dareeyay hoo;
Naam faqeer tad theendaa Bahu, jad wich talab de mareeyay hoo;
Maulaa!
Buleya shah ghar mayray aayaa, kar kar naach wekharee oo yaar.

Allah!
In the river of Ishq, we be a manly swimmer,
Where-ever strike the waves of adversity, we set afoot towards there;
Dense forests, threatening waste lands, sight of them doesn’t intimidate us;
The title “faqeer”, one deserves, O’ Bahu, only when they perish in want (of God).

Maulaa!

Iqbal Bahu Passes Away

Iqbal Bahu needs no introduction to Pakistanis. He was well known for singing Hazrat Sultan Bahu's kalams on PTV and Radio Pakistan. He was awarded Tamgha-i-Imtiaz in 2008. Sadly Bahu died of a cardiac arrest yesterday. He was 68.

Nigah-e-Darwaishaan - Abida Parveen

Maula... maula... maula... ho maula

Na khuda maseehtay labda
God is not found in mosques
(repeat)

Na khuda vich kaabay
Nor in the Kaaba

Na khuda quraan kittabaan
God is not in the Holy Scripture

Na khuda namazay
Nor in prayers

Sanu ishq laga hai pyaar da
I am smitten by the Beloved
(repeat)

Sanu pyaar da, dildaar da
The Beloved, the very dear

Sanu ishq laga hai pyaar da
I am smitten by the Beloved
(repeat)

Na rab arsh muallah uttay
God is not in the skies
(repeat)

Na rab khanay kaabay hoon
Nor in Kaaba

Na rab ilm kittabi labhaa
God is not in books about religion

Labhaa, na, na, na… labhaa
I could not find him anywhere…

Na rab ilm kittabi labhaa
God is not in books about religion

Na rab wich mehraab-e ho
Nor in the minarets

Gaanga teerath mool na milya
God is not on the banks of Ganges

Painday baihisaab-e ho
The pilgrimages have all been in vain

Jab da murshid milya baaho
When Bahu finds the Beloved

Chutti sab azab-e ho
All miseries disappear

Sanu ishq laga hai pyaar da
I am smitten by the Beloved

Sanu pyaar da, dildaar da
The Beloved, the very dear

Maula... Ali, Ali, Ali, da
(repeat)

Bulleh Shah, Bulleh Shah kaun hai
Who is Bulleh Shah?

Bulleh Shah, au kaun hai
Who is Bulleh Shah?

Uttam tera yaar
Who is your supreme friend?
(repeat)

Us key haath Quran...
In one hand, he holds the Quran

Us key gal zonaar
In his neck, he wears the holy thread

Sanu ishq laga hai pyaar da
I am smitten by the Beloved

Sanu pyaar da, dildaar da
The Beloved, the very dear
(repeat)

Maula da, maula, maula da, maula da

Sanu ishq laga hai pyaar da
I am smitten by the Beloved
(repeat)

Masjid dhaa dey
Tear down the mosques

Mandir dhaa dey
Tear down the mandirs

Dhaa dey jo kuch dhaindha
Tear down whatever can be brought down

Par kisi da dil naa dhaa
But don't break anyone's heart

Rab dilon vich rainda
For God resides there

Sanu ishq laga hai pyaar da
I am smitten by the Beloved

Sanu pyaar da, dildaar da
The Beloved, the very dear
(repeat)

Dil ki bisaat kya thee
But then what is the worth of this heart

Nigah-e-jamal mein
In front of the Beloved’s eyes

Ik aina tha toot gaya dekh baal mein
It’s like a mirror that broke whilst caring

Sanu ishq laga hai pyaar da
I am smitten by the Beloved
(repeat)

Raati jaagay sheikh sada mein
You keep awake at night and consider yourself pious

Tey raati jagan kuttay, tain thee uttay
But (Bulleya) even dogs stay awake the whole night,they are better than you!

Dar malik da mool na chadhtay, pawain sau sau pawnday juttay, tain thee uttay
They do not leave the door of the master, even if beaten, they are better than you!

Rukhi sukhi roti khandain, attay jagray tai suttay, tain thee uttay
They eat the leftovers and stale food, they are better than you!

Chal way miyan Bulleya, chal yaar mana lay
Come on Bulleya, let's go and pacify Him

Nahin tay baazi lay gaye kuttay, tain thee uttay
Otherwise the dogs steal the game, they are better than you!

Sanu ishq laga hai pyaar da
I am smitten by the Beloved
(repeat)

Maula maula ... pyaar da
Maula, maula, Ali, Ali
Ya Ali Ya Ali, Ya Ali, Ya Ali

Alif Allah Chambe di Booti - Kalam e Bahu - Badar Ali Khan Miandad

What a wonderfully soulful recital by the late Qawwal Badar Ali Khan Miandad! He was one of the greats who remained true to the original style. Badar Miandad Qawwal (February 17, 1962 – March 2, 2007) who sang from the heart, had a beautiful timbre of voice (ek khubsoorat leher thi awaaz mein), and an expert party of singers with him. He stayed close to the sufiana poetry and sang is Punjabi, Siraiki and Urdu of course. Unfortunately he passed away at the young age of 45 due to a heart attack.

This one is dedicated to my dear friend Haider Chaudhry who will surely appreciate it the most. jiwey bahu!

----
This second rather passionate recital by Farid Ayaz & Abu Muhammad is of the same beautiful poetry:
